What is Laylat al-Qadr?

Laylat al-Qadr is a blessed night in the month of Ramadan, mentioned by Allah in the Qur’an:

“Indeed, We sent it [the Qur’an] down during the Night of Decree.” [Al-Qadr: 1]

It is a night in which blessings descend and sins are forgiven. It is better than a thousand months, as the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever stands [in prayer] during Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Agreed upon)

The Virtues of Laylat al-Qadr

  • Forgiveness of sins: Whoever observes it sincerely will have their sins forgiven.

  • Better than a thousand months: Every act of worship is multiplied manifold.

  • Descent of mercy and blessings: Angels descend, and divine mercy envelops the servants.
