As part of the “Bas Law” Initiative, which aims to empower skilled individuals and professionals in need by restoring their means of livelihood, Uncle Hamed Al-Hassi, known as “Abu Hamza,” was given a renewed sense of hope after years of hard work.
Abu Hamza (58 years old) grew up with a deep love for the sea. He inherited the fishing profession from his father and grandfather, continuing a family tradition that shaped his entire life.
His small boat, over 30 years old, was his only source of income and the backbone of his livelihood.
One day, during rough sea conditions, the boat was severely damaged by strong waves, causing a major structural break. In a single moment, Abu Hamza lost his only means of providing for his family.
Unable to afford a replacement, he was forced to rent another boat. Between rental costs and supporting his family of 14 members, he found himself struggling to continue the profession he had dedicated his life to.
That’s when the “Bas Law” Initiative stepped in.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the boat was fully repaired at a cost of $1,500, allowing Abu Hamza to return to the sea and restore his source of income with dignity.
Today, Abu Hamza is back at work. He heads out at sunrise as he always did and returns with the day’s catch—bringing stability, security, and renewed hope to his large family.
This project was not just about repairing a boat.
It was about restoring hope, preserving dignity, and securing sustainable income for a family of fourteen.
