Cataract-related blindness is one of the leading causes of avoidable visual impairment among refugees and vulnerable populations. In Kakuma Refugee Camp, limited access to specialized eye care services leaves many individuals blind despite cataracts being fully treatable through a simple surgical procedure.

This project will restore sight, dignity, and independence to affected beneficiaries through safe and proven cataract surgery. The intervention delivers both immediate and long-term impact, enabling patients to regain mobility, resume livelihoods, and reduce dependency on humanitarian assistance.

With a unit cost of only USD 70 per operation, this programme represents a highly cost-effective and life-changing humanitarian health response.

Project Outputs:

  • Approximately 278 cataract surgeries successfully completed.
  • Improved vision and quality of life for beneficiaries.
  • Reduced burden of preventable blindness in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
  • Post-operative medication and follow-up care provided.

  • Eye screening conducted by qualified medical professionals.
