Zakat on Money

Zakat on Money
Details

Allah—the Almighty—said, 'Take, [O Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase [9:103].

God Almighty commanded Muslims to give away a portion of the wealth He endowed them with, making them stewards over it, and established this as one of the five pillars of Islam, for their purification and growth, and as a blessing in their wealth.

The zakat can be calculated by dividing the total amount to be zakated by 40. For example, if the amount is $100,000, the zakat is calculated as follows: 100,000/40 = $2,500.

Another method involves dividing the total amount by 100 and multiplying the result by 2.50. For instance, if the amount is $100,000, the zakat is calculated as follows: 100,000/100 = 1,000 * 2.50 = $2,500.

The zakat rate for monetary wealth is one-fourth of a tenth, equivalent to 2.5%, or 25 per thousand, or 250 per ten thousand, and so on.
