About this charity
The ruling on a vow depends on the circumstances in which it is made, as explained below: Once a person has made a valid vow that meets all the required conditions, they must fulfil it, as they have made it binding upon themselves. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever vows to obey Allah, let them obey Him; and whoever vows to disobey Him, let them not disobey Him.”
The expiation for a vow is the same as that for an oath: freeing an enslaved person, feeding ten people in need, or providing them with clothing. Anyone unable to do any of these must fast for three days. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The expiation for a vow is the same as the expiation for an oath.”
