If the value of stocks reaches the nisab of trade goods (equivalent to the value of 85 grams of gold) and a full lunar year passes, zakat becomes obligatory at a quarter of a tenth (2.5%). It should be noted that if a person possesses other wealth on which a lunar year has elapsed, this also applies to stocks, as they are considered part of the total wealth, and no separate lunar year is counted for the stocks upon purchase. The owner must calculate the zakat on stocks based on their market value at the end of the lunar year, as is the case with trade goods.
